Bees on the block: a collective planting project
Host Plant Network
What if our yards and parkways supported more pollinators?
The Host Plant Network is recruiting four blocks in Evanston to join a research project and grow native plants in your front yard and parkway alongside your neighbors. Apply via hostplant.net by October 24! While you must be over the age of 18 for interviews, anyone younger is welcome to participate with an older member of your family.
Each participating household will host two small plots where researchers will test the survival of two planting treatments: plugs in the front yard and seeds in the parkway (the strip of grass between the street and sidewalk). The researchers will study how well these plants establish and survive and what it's like to grow them. By reimagining and transforming the underused parts of our lawns into native plants, we can improve our urban ecosystem and support pollinators (including the endangered Rusty Patched Bumble Bee)!
